am -->woman wakes up to hear a window breaking, she peers over her living
room balcony and sees a prowler. She calls 911 and describes the
prowler. "does he look armed" the operator asks .. "i'm not going to
get close enough to find out" says the homeowner.... Woman is told to
get out of the house if possible, and hide if she can't get out, "the
police are on the way". The woman grabs her child and gets in her child's closet.
1:19 am --> still hearing the sounds of prowler moving around downstairs. The
motion noises are gradually moving closer to the stairs, and with no
sirens or signs of police arrival, she is still trying to keep her
pre-teen child calm.
1:23 am --> she hands phone to child, and whispers to child "when i signal, throw the phone down and scream!"
1:24 am --> woman carefully moves out of closet to just inside the doorway of the room and waits..
1:26 am --> as she hears the prowler begin to mount the stairs she yells "it's
an intruder, get me my gun". Child screams, drops phone and
disconnects call.
1:31 am --> When the police arrive they find woman and her child calmly sitting on couch waiting for them.
*The thief is gone
*at the foot of the stairs is a bag half filled with items the prowler had gathered from the lower level of the house.
*Also in the bag are an illegal switchblade, a rope, and a roll of duct tape.
After the officers confirm that no-one was injured, and the intruder is no longer in the house, the woman is questioned. An officer asks for her weapon permit. When she denies having
either a permit or a weapon the officer states but you yelled "get my
gun" while on the phone with the 911 operator... woman replies " I had
to do something, maybe if i had yelled gun at the beginning of my call
you might have gotten here in time to catch him!!"
